Speaker setup & system build

Speaker setup & system build

So, this is going to be a little different from what I usually share here but let's give it a go.

Within the past few weeks, I designed and built an audio system for a small business local to myself. This consisted of a 4x speaker setup with amplifier, wiring and fitting and a way to play the music for them.

Here is some details for those interested:

  • 4x 65W 4Ohm Speakers mounted in custom enclosures.

  • Wiring consisted of 2x parallel lines (Left channel = Parallel 1, Right channel = Parallel 2)

  • 35W amplifier with USB media input (low wattage to allow for future upgrade, prevent blowing speakers if someone changes the amplifier levels, and as only a low volume is needed overall) - still plenty of headroom to work with
  • Easy to replace parts if upgrades wanted in the future

  • Setup so the staff only have to press one switch in the morning to turn on the full system.

This system may seem small however this is what fit the businesses needs the most and for a lower powered system which had space to upgrade in the future if they choose to.

The wiring was by far the hardest part of this setup as all the wiring was to be put in the ceiling. This ceiling consisted of ceiling tiles and wooden beams whilst climbing up and down ladders.

The way to play specific audio files is through a USB flash drive - they can add new audio or remove audio tracks through a PC (easier than burning CDs or bluetooth connection).

Overall, the project was fun and I learned a lot about the process of designing systems and calculating wattages & resistance. The blogpost image is the speaker wiring diagram (complete with colour coded wires and rectangles as speakers symbols ;))

I hope this was useful to someone.

See you later.
